Safety Requirement for School bus

School buses licensed to carry school children have to be fitted with the following safety devices:

Hazard warning lights that are activated when the entrance or exit door of the bus is opened;

Picture of Children Crossing Sign

A reflective triangular "Children Crossing" sign with red blinking LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) (right) at the rear of the bus. The LED lights will be activated when the entrance or exit door is opened.

These additional safety requirements enhance the visibility of school buses. The automatic activation of the hazard warning lights and red blinking LED lights will also warn motorists that school children are boarding and alighting from the bus.

All school buses and private buses licensed to carry school children that are found without these devices will be liable, upon conviction, to a fine of up to $1,000 or a jail term of up to three months. Repeat offenders are liable, upon conviction, to a fine of up to $2,000 or a jail term of up to six months.
