Railway Tracks Near Pasir Ris to be Extended for Quicker Turnaround of Trains

News Releases 29 Jun 2018 MRT tracks railway turnback

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will extend the railway tracks after Pasir Ris MRT station to accommodate a new railway turnback. The turnback will allow for quicker turnaround of trains at Pasir Ris MRT station, a terminal station for the East-West Line (EWL).

2.  The new railway turnback consists of cross-tracks that allow trains to switch between the two bounds more efficiently, compared to the existing crossings at Pasir Ris MRT station. This means that trains arriving at Pasir Ris can turn around to serve the other bound more quickly than before. When completed in 2023, the new turnback, together with the EWL’s new Communications-Based Train Control signalling system, will allow EWL trains to run at shorter headways to meet future increases in ridership demand.

3.  The addition of the new railway turnback requires the existing railway viaduct after Pasir Ris MRT station to be extended by 148 metres. To facilitate these works, a strip of undeveloped land located beyond Pasir Ris MRT station was gazetted today. Please refer to the Annex for an illustration of the new railway turnback and its location.

4.  Works for the new Pasir Ris railway turnback will commence in 2019. To minimise impact and disamenities to the surroundings during the project’s construction phase, LTA will implement a suite of environmental management and monitoring measures such as the erection of noise barriers, and limiting construction activities near/at Pasir Ris Park to between 9.00am and 6.00pm.
