How to calculate your road tax

Determine your motorcycle's engine capacity.
Use the formula to calculate your road tax.

Engine Capacity

Engine Capacity (EC) in cc
6-Monthly Road Tax Formula
(From 1 September 2007 to 30 June 2008)
6-Monthly Road Tax Formula
(From 1 July 2008)
EC £ 200 $40 x 0.92 $40 x 0.782
200 < EC < 1,000

[$40 + 0.15(EC – 200)] x 0.92

[$40 + 0.15(EC – 200)] x 0.782

EC > 1,000

[$160 + 0.3(EC-1,000)] x 0.92

[$160 + 0.3(EC – 1,000)] x 0.782

Example 1:

If a motorcycle’s engine capacity is 400cc, the current road tax (up to 30 June 2008) is as follows:

Road Tax = [$40 + 0.15 (400 – 200)] x 0.92
= [$40 + 0.15 (200)] x 0.92
= [$40 + 30] x 0.92
  = $70 x 0.92
= $65

Therefore the road tax is $65 (for 6 months) or $130 (for 12 months)

Example 2 (from 1 July 2008 onwards)

If a motorcycle’s engine capacity is 400cc, the new road tax will be as follows:

Road Tax = [$40 + 0.15 (400 – 200)] x 0.782
= [$40 + 0.15 (200)] x 0.782
= [$40 + 30] x 0.782
= $70 x 0.782
= $55

Therefore the road tax is $55 (for 6 months) or $110 (for 12 months)
