As more developments are expected to mushroom in the Jurong West area, this extension looks set to accommodate the increase in demand for public transport around the vicinity. Residents and workers alike will have more flexibility when planning their travel routes, instead of having to rely solely on the existing Boon Lay MRT station and Boon Lay bus interchange. For example, where they currently have to make bus transfers from Boon Lay MRT station, residents in the south western part of Jurong West will be able to continue their train ride to a station closer to their homes. Similarly, workers in the industrial estates can also look forward to shorter journeys, some reduced by as much as 15 minutes.
