How updated is the information on this online enquiry e-service? For example, if my vocational licence (VL) was issued/ renewed today, will I see my VL status if I check using the e-service today? |
| A1 |
|
The records are updated every night. So, if your VL was issued today, you will not see this reflected until tomorrow.
If you renew your licence outside of LTA's Vehicle and Transit Licensing office, it may take up to two working days for your records to be updated online. For example, if you are a registered taxi driver with Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd or SMRT Taxis Pte Ltd and you renew your licence at your taxi company, it may take up to two working days for you to see your renewed licence status using the online enquiry

| Q2 |
|
I recently submitted my application for a vocational licence (VL). Will I be able to view the application/ approval status using the online enquiry? |
| A2 |
|
You will not be able to view the application/ approval status of your submission as this online enquiry e-service is meant to display the status of existing VLs only, i.e. only records of VLs which have been issued will be displayed. For enquiries on application status, you may call our hotline at 1800-Call LTA (1800-2255 582).

| Q3 |
|
Can I renew my VL on-line? |
| A3 |
|
The online enquiry e-service is only for the enquiry of VL status. No renewal transaction can be done on-line. For renewal, you may come to LTA at 10 Sin Ming Drive or send your renewal documents together with a cheque payment of $40 by post. Alternatively, if you are a registered taxi driver with either Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd or SMRT Taxis Pte Ltd, you may renew your licence with your company.

| Q4 |
|
When I tried to search for the status a VL using the online enquiry e-service, I got the message "no record found". What does this mean? |
| A4 |
|
The message "no record found" can result from any of the following:
- The NRIC/ FIN or date of birth entered is incorrect, incomplete, or in the wrong format.
- The VL had already expired/ been revoked more than 3 years ago.*
- The person does not hold a VL.
Please ensure that the NRIC/ FIN and date of birth have been entered correctly. Both fields have to be correct before a successful match can be made.
* When an individual's VL has expired or is revoked, the status will be shown as "expired" or "revoked" for three years after the expiry/ revocation date. After 3 years, the record will no longer be retained, i.e. the result "no record found" will be displayed.

| Q5 |
|
I previously held a VL. Why am I unable to see record of my VL using this feature? |
| A5 |
|
If your VL has expired, you will still be able to find record of your VL using this e-service (the status will be reflected as "expired") for 3 years after the expiry date. The same applies if your VL had previously been revoked – the status will be reflected as "revoked" for 3 years after the revocation date.
However, if your VL had expired more than 3 years ago, you will not be able to find record of your licence using this e-feature (the screen will display the message "no record found"). You will have to apply afresh for a VL should you wish to drive a Public Service Vehicle again. . This is because, under Rule 9(7) of the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Vocational Licences and Conduct of Drivers, Conductors and Passengers) Rules, a VL which has ceased to be valid for a continuous period of more than 3 years cannot be renewed. This is to ensure that VL holders who have stopped driving Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) for a relatively long period are updated on the job requirements as well as the relevant rules and regulations before they drive PSVs again.
Similarly, if your VL had been revoked more than 3 years ago, the screen will display the message "no record found".

| Q6 |
|
What should I do if my VL expired more than 3 years ago and there is no record found of my VL? |
| A6 |
|
You may submit a fresh application for a VL by completing the application form. Please submit this to LTA together with the $40 application fee. If your application is successful, you will need to attend the relevant training course(s) and pass the required test(s).
|
| Q7 |
|
What if my VL expired less than 3 years ago? |
| A7 |
|
You may apply for late renewal of your VL and pay the $25 late fee. You need not go through the full training course again. However, you may be required to undergo a medical examination and attend a refresher course if either one, or both, of these are due.
(Please note that the medical examination and refresher course requirements apply equally to VL holders whose licences are continuously valid. VL holders are required to undergo a medical examination every 2 years between the ages of 50 and 64 years, and every year from the age of 65 years to the upper age limit. The upper age limit for the Bus Driver's VL is 70 years, and for the Taxi Driver's VL, it is 73 years. As for the refresher course requirement, VL holders are required to attend this course once every 6 years.)

| Q8 |
|
I applied for late renewal of my VL, which expired two years ago. What results will be shown using the online enquiry? |
| A8 |
|
The online enquiry will show your VL as expired until your application for late renewal has been approved and your new VL has been issued to you. Upon renewal, your licence status will be shown as "valid", and the expiry date of your valid licence will be reflected.

| Q9 |
|
What does it mean when the licence status is reflected as 'Revoked' or 'Suspended'? |
| A9 |
|
When a VL is "revoked", it means it has been cancelled and is no longer valid. This happens when the VL holder:
- is convicted in court for an offence;
- has his driving licence disqualified by any court of law, or suspended for one year or more by the Singapore Traffic Police; or
- accumulates more than 20 demerit points under the Vocational Licensing Points system (VLPS) within a period of 24 months. Click below to read more about the VLPS.
When a VL is "suspended", it means that the VL holder is not allowed to drive a Public Service Vehicle during the stipulated period. Under the VLPS, a TDVL will be suspended when the TDVL holder accumulates 6 to 20 more demerit points within a period of 24 months (an accumulation of more than 20 demerit points will result in revocation of the licence, as mentioned above). The period of suspension ranges from 2 to 8 weeks.

| Q10 |
|
My VL has been suspended. What will I see when I enquire about my VL status using this feature, during and after the suspension period? |
| A10 |
|
During your suspension period, your VL status will be reflected as "suspended", but the start and end dates of your suspension period will not be shown. When the suspension period is over, your VL status will again be reflected as "valid".

| Q11 |
|
I hold an Omnibus VL. Under "expiry date", why is the result shown as “not applicable”? |
| A11 |
|
This is because, unlike other types of VL which have a 3-year validity period, the Omnibus VL is a "life-long" VL which is valid as long as the omnibus driver remains in the employment of the omnibus company (i.e. SBS Transit Ltd or SMRT Buses Ltd). This category of VL therefore does not have an expiry date.
