The new Canberra MRT station on the North-South Line (NSL) will open for service on 2 November 2019. This was announced by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan when he visited the station site today to observe the final day of the three-day staged NSL closures to facilitate works for Canberra station. To facilitate installation works for a crossover track near the new Canberra MRT station, parts of the North-South Line (NSL) will be closed over the Vesak Day long weekend from 18 to 20 May 2019. During this three-day period, shuttle bus services will be available for affected commuters. Service on the rest of NSL will run as per normal throughout the long weekend. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is on track to complete the new Canberra MRT Station by December 2019. The station is located between Sembawang and Yishun MRT Stations on the existing North-South Line (NSL). LTA has to overcome construction challenges of building the MRT station over an operational MRT line, by implementing appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the NSL’s existing structures while minimising disruptions to train services.
