Going car-lite in the Jurong Lake District (JLD), Singapore’s second Central Business District, is now easier with the completion of a 15km dedicated cycling path network. JLD is the 8th intra-town cycling path network in Singapore. This is part of the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) long term plan to progressively construct dedicated cycling path networks in all HDB towns to enhance first and last mile connections. From 29 June 2017, a prototype stroller restraint system will be tested on SBS Transit Service 69, to secure open strollers on the bus. In addition to holding on to their strollers throughout the journey, parents and caregivers are encouraged to use the restraint system on the bus. The Downtown Line 3 (DTL3) will open on 21 October 2017, making it the longest underground and driverless MRT line in Singapore, surpassing the 35.7km Circle Line (CCL). The completed DTL which will be 42km long will facilitate direct travel from the north-western and eastern areas of the island to the Central Business District (CBD) and Marina Bay areas, providing greater connectivity to residential, industrial and lifestyle enclaves. From 16 April 2017, the trial of the new signalling system for the North-South Line (NSL) will be extended to a full day on Sundays. This follows the successful weekday trials during the last hour of passenger service since 28 March 2017. The all-day trial on Sundays is expected to last two months.
