With 75 per cent of construction completed, the new Canberra station along the North-South Line (NSL) is on track to open by this year. The next stage of construction involves connecting the two existing tracks to and from Canberra station with a new 72-metre long crossover track. The construction works for the crossover will require a three-day, staggered closure of up to five MRT stations between Admiralty and Yio Chu Kang stations. Since 28 March, LTA and SMRT, together with Thales, the supplier of the new signalling system for North-South Line (NSL), have been running tests progressively since 28 March. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT will trial the new signalling system on the North-South Line (NSL) during the last hour of passenger service from 28 March 2017. The signalling system upgrade is part of LTA and SMRT’s on-going efforts to rejuvenate our ageing rail network. It involves upgrading the NSL’s signalling system from the existing Fixed Block System to the more advanced Communications-Based Train Control System. Located between Sembawang and Yishun stations and along Canberra Link, Canberra station will serve commuters living in nearby estates such as Sembawang Springs, as well as upcoming residential developments in the neighbourhood.
