Road Announcements
As part of the Silver Zone scheme, a part of the service road along Whampoa Drive will be converted to a community space from 15 April 2019. The service road and access to car park BR6 along Whampoa Drive will be closed to traffic from Thursday, 11 April 2019 to Friday, 12 April 2019 from 10.00pm to 2.00am.

In addition to ongoing works for 10 Silver Zones, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will build another 10 Silver Zones, which are expected to be completed in 2020. Residential areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Potong Pasir, Tampines and Yishun will have enhanced and customised road safety features to remind motorists to slow down and keep a lookout for pedestrians, as well as remind elderly pedestrians to remain vigilant when crossing roads. Residents living near Marine Crescent and Marine Terrace can now enjoy safer roads, as the estate becomes the eighth completed Silver Zone in Singapore. The completed Silver Zone was unveiled by Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Senior Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo at a launch ceremony this morning. Building on the positive feedback and success of existing Silver Zones, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will expand the programme from an initial 35 to a total of 50 locations island-wide by 2023. As the Land Transport Authority (LTA) works towards making Singapore more conducive for walking, cycling, and riding public transport, we need to look at different ways to make it easier for seniors to get to nearby amenities or transport nodes. Under the Silver Zone programme, LTA is making it safer for seniors by providing road safety features, such as two-stage crossings and extended green man timings, to help our pedestrians cross the roads more safely and conveniently. Seniors can look forward to ten more Silver Zones with senior-friendly road safety features by the first quarter of 2017. During his visit to the Silver Zone site at Yishun Ring Road, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Health), Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim said, “More than 90% of residents surveyed in the first two completed Silver Zones felt that the senior-friendly measures – particularly the lowered speed limit and two-stage crossings – have provided them with more convenience and also improved road safety.
