More buses under Bus Service Enhancement Programme

     Through the Bus Service Enhancement Programme[1], 68 buses were added to enhance 17[2] services that serve Bukit Panjang.

2.   One example is Service 972, which was introduced on 17 November 2013 with an initial fleet of 12 buses to connect Bukit Panjang residents to the city and key transport nodes such as Dhoby Ghaut, Somerset and Orchard MRT stations. Seven buses have been progressively added to the bus service to cater to the increase in demand.

3.   This bus service was recently extended on 14 June 2015 to Senja Road, benefitting residents of least 1,600 HDB units. Another five buses were added to the fleet in conjunction with the route amendment, further improving the peak headway to six minutes, from 11 minutes when the service was first launched.

4.   In addition to the 68 buses injected, the Land Transport Authority had worked with SMRT Buses to convert single-deck buses to high-capacity buses on popular services to provide commuters with more space and comfort. Since July 2014, 43 single deck buses have been converted to double deck buses on eight popular services[3] that ply through Bukit Panjang.


More regular wait times under Bus Services Reliability Framework (BSRF) trial

5.   Under the ongoing BSRF trial[4], two bus services that ply Bukit Panjang, Services 176 and 184 saw greater regularity and reduced instances of bus bunching.  In the first assessment period, Service 176 showed a 0.2 minute improvement in its Excess Wait Time (EWT) while Service 184 showed a 0.3 minute improvement.

6.   Out of the 23 services to be added to the trial in June and December 2015, Services 171, 180, 187 and 975[5] serve the Bukit Panjang area.


Seamless transfer with opening of Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub

7.   Come 2017, residents in Bukit Panjang will enjoy greater comfort, convenience and seamless transfers between rail and bus services with the opening of a new air-conditioned Integrated Transport Hub (ITH). The new ITH will be integrated with the existing Bukit Panjang LRT station, upcoming Bukit Panjang MRT station as well as retail, F&B and residential developments at the same site.

[1] The Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) was introduced in 2012 where 1,000 Government-funded buses are progressively added to ramp up bus capacity and improve bus service levels. Together with the buses injected by the Public Transport Operators (PTOs), as well as the City Direct Services (CDS) and Peak Period Short Services (PPSS) run by private bus operators, Singapore’s total bus fleet available for public bus services will be increased by 35% in 2017.
