The revised EN15194:2017 standard was introduced in 2017. In line with the adoption of standards worldwide, since 2018, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been encouraging PAB retailers to submit PAB models that comply with the EN15194:2017 standard for approval and sealing. The revised standard encompasses additional safety requirements including anti-tampering measures, provision of instructions for use, and measures to safeguard against common hazards arising from device usage, which improves device safety. We are encouraged that some retailers are already bringing in EN15194:2017 compliant PAB models even though it is currently not a mandatory requirement.
In order to gauge the lead time required to bring in EN15194:2017 PAB models, LTA carried out a survey on 2 November 2020 amongst the retailers. We thank the retailers who participated in our survey and have taken in the many responses and feedback.
With effect from 1 July 2021, LTA will require new PABs to comply with the EN15194:2017 standard. LTA-Authorised Inspection Centres (“AICs”) will therefore only approve, seal and register PABs that comply with the EN15194:2017 standard, from 1 July 2021.
Retailers should send PABs that comply with the EN15194:2009+A1:2011 standard to the AICs for sealing and registration before 30 June 2021. To allow for a smooth transition, retailers are strongly advised to make the necessary appointments with the AICs early, for the sealing of the existing stock of PABs. Accordingly, we advise against importing new stock of EN15194:2009+A1:2011 PABs.
PABs that have been sealed and registered before 1 July 2021 will still be allowed for sale and transfer of ownership.
