Train service on the Circle Line (CCL) will start on Friday 26 October 2012 as per normal. The first train will depart HarbourFront at 5.51am and from Dhoby Ghaut at 6.05am.
2. Based on preliminary investigations, the cause of the service disruption on Thursday 25 October 2012 night was a power trip at Promenade Station that initially affected the entire Circle Line. The localised power trip was likely due to a faulty cable which has been isolated. LTA and SMRT will continue to monitor the situation closely.
3. Train service was disrupted on 25 October night on both bounds at about 10.26pm. About 100 commuters who were on a train that stalled in the tunnel between Promenade and Bayfront were detrained in an orderly manner and guided to the nearby Bayfront station within half an hour. Bus bridging services, and the free boarding of regular bus services were activated between HarbourFront and Dhoby Ghaut, and the first bus arrived at Dhoby Ghaut at 11 pm. Partial train service was restored between HarbourFront and Paya Lebar at about 11.20pm.
4. LTA’s Crisis Management Team led by Chief Executive Chew Hock Yong was at the Land Transport Operations Centre to monitor and coordinate the incident management and service recovery efforts. LTA also monitored the public bus network, and liaised with SMRT and SBST to augment bus services serving the affected areas. LTA engineers were also deployed to the incident site to work with SMRT engineers on the repair and recovery efforts. About 50 LTA officers were also deployed to assist SMRT on service recovery, crowd control and traffic management. LTA coordinated closely with SMRT on the various efforts.
5. LTA will work with SMRT to investigate the cause of the incident.
