1,500 racks completed at 10 MRT stations and
900 racks to be added at 10 more stations by 2013
1. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has completed the installation of 1,500 bicycle parking racks at 10 MRT stations - Admiralty, Aljunied, Boon Lay, Chinese Garden, Khatib, Lakeside, Sembawang, Sengkang, Simei and Yishun - and will start work to add 900 racks at 10 more stations by 2013.
2. The new bicycle parking facilities will facilitate travel to the MRT stations and to intra-town facilities. The facilities adopt an enhanced design that enables cyclists to lock their bicycles more securely. The bicycle parking areas are also adequately lit for added security. To maximise the space available and to meet the parking demand, LTA has also introduced double- tiered racks at selected stations. Please refer to Annex A for the pictures and the breakdown of racks added to each station.
3. Under the National Cycling Plan, announced in June 2010, LTA will roll-out a programme to increase bicycle parking facilities at MRT stations. The 10 stations are the first batch of additional parking racks that have been completed. Works to install these racks started in October 2011.
4. LTA has identified 10 more stations for the second batch of this enhancement programme. By 2013, about 900 additional racks will be added to Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Gombak, Choa Chu Kang, Eunos, Marsiling, Paya Lebar, Redhill, Tanah Merah, Woodlands & Yew Tee MRT stations. Beyond the 20 stations, LTA will continue to monitor the demand for bicycle parking at transport nodes and review if there is a need to add more parking facilities at these areas.
