Distinct colours for MRT lines displayed extensively

Media Replies 25 Oct 2012 rail network

We refer to Mr Chan Teck Guan’s letter “Use different colours for MRT lines” (ST interactive, 17 Oct).
We have opted to show each MRT line’s colour extensively on all station signage including directional signs, system maps, single-route maps at the platforms, and above the platform screen doors to help commuters find their way.   Commuters will know that they are moving in the direction of the correct line even before they reach the platform and board the train. While on the train, commuters can also refer to the single-route map above train doors as a guide.
This approach leads a commuter to the correct platform and line from the time he enters the station. As trains on the North-South-East-West Line are not assigned to a specific line, applying colour to the trains is not possible.
We thank Mr Chan for his suggestions.
