Private buses cannot wait at bus stops

Media Replies 25 Oct 2012 private buses

We refer to Ms Ng Tiau Tee’s letter “Private shuttle buses are hogging the public bus stop” (The Straits Times, 16 October 2012).

Bus stops are built for public buses to pick-up and drop-off passengers. Private buses are not allowed to stop, pick up/drop-off or wait for passengers at the bus stops, unless authorised specifically to do so. Such approval is given on a case-by-case basis, and subject to these buses not affecting public bus service operations.

Enforcement action is taken against private buses that park near/at bus stops or that obstruct public buses. Members of the public can contact the Land Transport Authority at 1800–225-5582 to report any indiscriminate parking by providing the vehicle’s registration number, date, time, location and nature of the offence as well as the reporting person’s contact details to facilitate our follow-up.

We thank Ms Ng for her feedback.
