Calibrated approach in setting taxi availability standards

Media Replies 11 Dec 2012

We refer to the letter from Paul Chan Poh Hoi, ‘New taxi rules not of global city standards’ in TODAY, 5 Dec 2012.

Our aim with the taxi availability framework is to increase utilisation of the taxi fleet. A balanced and graduated approach is taken to achieve improvements for commuters while ensuring that the taxi industry is able to transit to the new standards.

Besides taxi availability, LTA also regulates the service standards of the taxi industry through Quality of Service (QoS) standards, and we will continue to ensure that the stipulated standards are met.

We thank the Mr Chan for his views. We will review the taxi availability framework for effectiveness and improve it as the industry adapts.
