LTA explains enforcement on private road

Media Replies 01 Dec 2012

We refer to letter from Teo Soo Yeow 'Illegal parking on private roads’ (The Straits Times, 16 November 2012).

In fact, a private developer bought the estate in Kuo Chuan Avenue in 2008 and erected gates and signs to show the area is private property. However, in  practice, the developer has generally left the avenue open to public access provided there are no obstructions to those residing there.

While the LTA  has the authority under the Road Traffic Act to take enforcement action on private roads,  it does so judiciously particularly when home access or road safety are compromised and when obstructions occur.

We have contacted Mr Teo and clarified the situation with him.

We thank Mr Teo for his feedback.
