Action taken against improper parking

Media Replies 07 Sep 2012

We refer to Mr Lam Kong Choong’s ‘Safety concerns over parking in estate' (TODAY Online, 28 August 2012).

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) takes strict enforcement against motorists park indiscriminately or obstruct traffic. Jalan Yasin where Mr Lam lives is a one-way street connecting Lorong Marican to Jalan Eunos. To manage traffic flow and parking needs of residents and their visitors, only one side of the road is demarcated with continuous double yellow lines. Our checks show that vehicles were properly parked on the other side of the road and did not pose a safety hazard or obstruct traffic or block access. We will continue to monitor the situation.

In his letter, Mr Lam also mentioned the lorry restriction signs along three roads leading to Jalan Yasin. He suggested for the sign to be similarly put up at Jalan Yasin. We wish to highlight that Jalan Yasin is only accessible via these roads. The signs restrict heavy lorries exceeding 2,500 kg in unladen weight from entering these three roads, and thus already prevent such lorries from entering Jalan Yasin.

We thank Mr Lam for the opportunity to explain.
