New roof for leaky bus shelter by end-Feb

Media Replies 31 Jan 2013

We refer to Mr Ang Chee Chien’s letter, ‘Poorly designed, leaky bus stops’ (ST, 13 Jan).

Mr Ang has given feedback on the leaking bus shelter roof along Delta Road on several occasions but the problem persisted even though we sealed the roof’s construction joints each time we received Mr Ang’s feedback. Recognising that this is going to be a recurrent maintenance issue, we decided that we will replace the roof panels of the bus shelter . The new roof will be in place by end February 2013.

We have also inspected the two other bus shelters highlighted by Mr Ang, and we did not find any sign of leakage. The problem could be due to the fact that gutters are no longer provided for bus shelter roofs to prevent mosquito breeding, and this may sometimes lead to rain splattering onto the shelter especially during heavy downpours. We will review our roof design to address such concerns.

We thank Mr Ang for the opportunity to clarify and apologise for the unpleasant experience.
