Understanding How to Create a Sustainable People Centred Land Transport System

Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition 2013
7 to 9 October 2013

Prominent urban land transport professionals and experts worldwide will converge at the Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition (SITCE) 2013 to learn how to create sustainable land transport systems.

2. For the first time, SITCE brings together four established urban transport conferences, the World Urban Transport Leaders Summit, the World Roads Conference, the World Urban Transit Conference and UITP Asia-Pacific Congress in one single event. The congress has attracted over a thousand transport officials and professions from more than 40 countries. Close to 100 international exhibitors will participate in the exhibition segment, making it the biggest international transport exhibition held in Singapore.

3. Themed “People-centred Mobility for Liveable Cities”, SITCE will provide a platform for these professionals in the urban land transport industry to meet and discuss ways on how to shift the transport focus to people.

4. SITCE will cover various important issues on urban transport, such as governance, challenges in rail and road infrastructure development, clean and green transport, and future transport innovations.

5. “The focal point of any good transport system is about transporting people, not about vehicles. Through the SITCE, we want to provide the platform for experts all over the world to exchange views and learn about how they can better understand what people need in their transport systems. This exchange of views and best practices will foster the creation of more sustainable transport systems, making our cities more liveable for all,” said Mr Chua Chong Kheng, Co-Chairperson, Organising Committee, SITCE 2013 and Deputy Chief Executive (Infrastructure & Development) for LTA.

6. “I am very much looking forward to this, the inaugural edition of SITCE. It is greatly encouraging that so many public transport and sustainable mobility professionals will gather in Singapore to share the type of best practices and expertise that will help to push the sector forwards. This type of energy is vital to creating cities that are desirable places in which to live and work, not only in the Asia Pacific region, but all over the world.” UITP Secretary General, Alain Flausch.

About the SITCE

7. SITCE is one of the first initiatives by the UITP Centre for Transport Excellence for the Asia-Pacific region. The Centre, to be housed in the LTA Academy, will be jointly established and developed by the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) as a one-stop land transport knowledge and research hub in the region.

8. SITCE will be held from 7 to 9 October at the Suntec City Convention Centre. The inaugural SITCE was made possible with the support of our event sponsors. Please refer to Annex A for the list of sponsors. For more information on SITCE, please visit http://www.sitce.org.
