Joint News Release by the Land Transport Authority & SMRT - New Parallel Bus Service 982E Starting From 18 March; Service Connects Choa Chu Kang Residents to and from the City

News Releases 12 Mar 2013 Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP)

A new SMRT parallel service – Service 982E – that connects the Choa Chu Kang neighbourhoods to the Central Business District (CBD) will begin operations from Monday, 18 March 2013. This is the eighth bus service to be rolled out under the Land Transport Authority’s Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP).

The new service will provide greater connectivity for Choa Chu Kang residents travelling to and from areas in the CBD during weekday morning and evening peak-hours (excluding public holidays).

Parallel Service 982E will operate two one-way trips on weekday mornings at 7.40 am and 7.50 am from Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4, Choa Chu Kang Way, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1 and Teck Whye Avenue to areas within the CBD such as Anson Road, Robinson Road and Marina Boulevard. On weekday evenings, two one-way trips at 6.15 pm and 6.30 pm will connect commuters from areas such as Central Boulevard and Shenton Way to the Choa Chu Kang neighbourhoods. Please refer to the attached poster for more details.

Acting Vice President for SMRT Buses Ltd, Tan Kian Heong said: "We are pleased to have the opportunity to operate another new parallel bus service that directly connects the heartlands and the city. With fewer bus stops and a route that utilises the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), this new parallel bus service enhances the overall travelling experience of our customers by offering them not only more convenience when commuting to and from the CBD, but also presents them an alternative travel option on top of other bus services, the LRT, and the MRT."

Passengers may contact SMRT Customer Relations Centre at 1800-336-8900 from 7.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays (excluding public holidays) or visit for more information on Service 982E.
