LTA Scores Second Win at the UITP “Grow With Public Transport” Award for Marina Bay Station Innovative Design

News Releases 30 May 2013 UITP

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) scored another win with its Circle Line Marina Bay Station design at the UITP (International Association of Public Transport) “Grow with Public Transport” award. The Marina Bay Station is the winner at the Asia Pacific Level for the Design Innovation category. This was announced at the 60th UITP World Congress & Exhibition held in Geneva from 26 May to 30 May 2013.

2.         This is LTA’s second win at the UITP award. LTA’s mobile application - “MyTransport.SG – Your One-Stop Integrated Transport Companion” had earlier won top honours at the International Level under the Integrated Mobility Innovation Category.

3.         The UITP awards recognise public transport stakeholders that have shown innovation in their efforts to boost the quality and quantity of public transport and thereby promoting its growth and usage. The awards are given at both the international and regional levels in various categories.

4.         At the Asia-Pacific level, the Circle Line Marina Bay station received recognition for its unique station design that blends with its surroundings for the Design Innovation category. Amongst others, the station’s entrance with the canopy that floats like a cloud over the reflective pool blurs the boundaries between the station and the nearby park. The reflective pool also gives a cooling effect to the area near the station (Please refer to Annex A for photos of Marina Bay Station).

5.         LTA Academy Advisory Board Chairman, Professor Cham Tao Soon received the award on LTA’s behalf in Geneva at the 60th UITP World Congress & Exhibition (please refer to photo in Annex B).

6.        Mr Chew Hock Yong, Chief Executive, LTA said: “We are pleased and honoured to receive two wins at the UITP award. For the Marina Bay Station, our team of architect and engineers had taken into consideration the environment surrounding the station, and have put in much work and careful planning to create a design that optimally reflects and blends in with the station’s surrounding. We will continue to innovate to improve all elements of our public transport system so as to improve overall commuter experience and make our public transport system an attractive transport option for all.”
