LTA has worked with the motor industry to promote good business practices and prevent unfortunate experiences like the one described by Mr Yeo Shuan Chee (“Dishonest used-car dealers still at it - 10 years on”; last Wednesday). For example, CASE and the Singapore Vehicle Traders Association (SVTA) jointly launched a CaseTrust-SVTA Accreditation Scheme in 2009, where those accredited will adhere to best practices, including timely transfers of ownerships. We would encourage motorists to use the service of CaseTrust-SVTA accredited motor vehicle dealers for greater assurance. More details of the scheme can be found at www.casetrust.org.sg.
Buyers/sellers are also encouraged to enquire on the status of their vehicle ownership via www.onemotoring.com.sg. By checking early, they can quickly contact the dealership to give them a chance to correct the situation if the transfer has not been effected and if they need, to contact CASE, LTA or the Police.
LTA will blacklist motor dealers from registering as our Electronic Service Agents (ESA) if their directors or shareholders are found to have committed fraud.
