Cards in readers: visual and audible signals alert motorists

Media Replies 27 Jul 2013

We refer to Mr Heng Cho Choon’s letter, “Adopt ‘touch and go’ system for tolls”, (The Straits Times, 18 July 2013).

The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)/toll system is used primarily to regulate the entry and for the collection of VEP fees for foreign vehicles entering into Singapore. It is also used to collect toll charges from all motorists passing through Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint. We will study the feasibility of a contactless design for checkpoint operations.

We would also like to share that the current system provides both visual and audible signals (flashing lights and series of beep sound) to alert motorists whenever a card is detected in the reader after any deduction. For assistance on lost Autopass cards at the checkpoints, drivers can contact LTA at 6767 5858 (Woodlands Checkpoint) or 6865 4852 (Tuas Checkpoint). Drivers who lost their Cashcards are advised to contact SPF Found & Unclaimed Property Office (FUPO) at 6842 9645 for assistance.
