LTA Not Looking To Implement Free Train Rides For Evening Peak For The Time Being

Media Replies 30 Jul 2013

We refer to Mr Zhuang Ming Xin’s letter “Free MRT for those who knock off later” (Lianhe Zaobao, 25 Jul 2013).

The free pre-peak travel trial aims to ease crowding along the most crowded stretches of the rail network. These are typically city-bound stretches in the mornings. Commuters’ travel patterns are more spread out in the evenings, both across time, as well as destination. We are therefore focusing on the morning peak rail commuters for now.

We would like to thank Mr Zhuang for his suggestion. We will monitor the results and review its effectiveness to see what lessons and ideas might apply.
