We refer to Miss Bertha Cheang Xiang Rong’s letter ‘Jams at JEM’, (ST Online, 28 June).
We have been working closely with the developers of the new JEM shopping mall to monitor and manage the traffic situation at Jurong Gateway Road since the planning phase of the new shopping mall. The opening, which also coincided with the June School Holiday may have played a part in attracting large volume of shoppers and vehicular traffic to the area. As it is a new development, patrons may not be familiar with the alternative parking sites.
To ensure that vehicles queuing to enter the mall do not inconvenience other road users unnecessarily, we are working closely with JEM’s management team to provide more information to motorists on alternative car parks. We have also stepped up our enforcement to ensure that vehicles do not park illegally and cause obstruction to other road users.
We will continue to monitor the traffic situation closely and will work with the mall management to make suitable adjustments where needed.
