WE THANK Mr David Goh ("Better planning needed for business district"; Forum Online, June 27) and assure him that Marina Bay will be well connected with an integrated transport and pedestrian network as more developments there take shape.
Marina Bay, including the Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC), is currently served by the MRT trains calling at stations such as the existing Bayfront station (Circle Line) and Marina Bay station (North-South and Circle Lines). It will soon be served by the upcoming Downtown station (Downtown Line 1) to be completed by the year end.
New roads are being built in tandem with the completion of developments and infrastructure projects to improve the traffic flow in the area.
MRT stations in Marina Bay are planned to be integrated or directly linked to adjoining developments to make the use of public transport comfortable and attractive.
The developments in Marina Bay will also be inter-connected through an extensive network of underground pedestrian links. These links are being built progressively as they are constructed as part of the basement levels of new developments.
To complement the underground pedestrian links, a comprehensive network of street-level covered walkways and second-storey links is also being progressively built to make walking from building to building convenient and comfortable.
Before any development takes place, we have a process to assess and provide interim links to the MRT stations where necessary. For instance, the Land Transport Authority will build an interim covered pedestrian link connecting Marina Bay station to MBFC.
