Bukit Timah Traffic Will Improve When Roadworks End

Media Replies 23 Sep 2013

WE THANK Mr Tan Chin Kwang for his letter ("Jam turns 1.7km drive into hour-long ordeal"; Forum Online, Sept 6).

The heavy congestion along Upper Bukit Timah Road on Sept 2 could be due to two accidents along the Pan-Island Expressway heading to Tuas during the evening peak hours. Some motorists could have diverted from the congested PIE to Bukit Timah Road to reach Bukit Panjang Ring Road.

The Land Transport Authority is constructing two new flyovers and widening parts of Upper Bukit Timah and Woodlands roads. Motorists can look forward to improved traffic conditions along this corridor when the new flyovers and road widening are completed in 2015.

Meanwhile, to minimise inconveniences to road users, temporary road diversions are carried out in stages along Upper Bukit Timah Road for the construction of Downtown Line stations. Where possible, works are carried out during off-peak hours and over weekends.

We will continue to monitor traffic conditions along Upper Bukit Timah Road during the evening peak hours and make the necessary adjustments such as increasing the green time for the north-bound traffic to improve traffic flow.
