LTA understands the inconvenience experienced by many commuters due to this morning’s service disruption on the North South Line. The incident was due to a fault on a south-bound train, which had to be pushed by the train behind it to Ang Mo Kio station for passengers to alight safely at the station platform. As the train used to conduct the push-out operation had already left Yio Chu Kang station when the incident occurred, its passengers were also requested to alight at Ang Mo Kio station, so that it could push the faulty train to the nearest maintenance facility.
During the disruption, SMRT activated free bus bridging service and announcements were made at stations to inform passengers. However, given the inconvenience to commuters, LTA has directed SMRT to provide a full report on the incident, including the recovery measures carried out, and an assessment on what more could be done to help commuters adjust their travel plans. LTA will also independently carry out an investigation on this incident.
