Suggestion to adjust bus lane in Alexandra Road

Media Replies 14 Jan 2014

We refer to Mr Zhang Rui Xing’s letter “Suggestion to adjust bus lane in Alexandra Road” (Lianhe Zaobao, 6 Jan).

Bus lanes give buses priority on the roads, allowing buses to enter and exit stops more smoothly and providing faster rides for commuters during operating hours. The bus lane scheme was implemented along Alexandra Road in 2013 as there are sufficiently high numbers of buses plying along the corridor, as well as sufficient traffic lanes to allow bus lane. The stretch of road outside Alexandra Hospital is heavily utilised by buses during the peak hours.

When introducing bus lanes, LTA also considers the needs of motorists. At accesses and junctions, LTA will introduce dotted bus lanes to facilitate the movement of motorists, and we will also adjust the length of the dotted bus lane according to the site conditions. A longer dotted bus lane is provided along Alexandra Road mentioned in the letter to allow motorists more distance to filter.

We thank Mr Zhang for his feedback.
