Bus-stop bollards protect commuters

Media Replies 03 Dec 2014

WE THANK Mr Lai Wai Heng for his letter (“Bollards not sturdy enough”; Nov 25).

Safety bollards are placed strategically in front of bus stops to prevent oncoming vehicles from hitting commuters.

The bollards absorb the impact and prevent the speeding vehicles from travelling farther into the bus stops, thus protecting commuters from injury. They also alert drivers of the presence of bus stops, especially at night.

In the incident mentioned by Mr Lai (“Taxi crashes into bus stop”; Nov 21), the bollard was able to stop the vehicle and prevent injury to commuters at the bus stop.
