No Saturday ERP in some areas

Media Replies 07 Apr 2014

WE THANK Mr Jolly Wee ("Remove ERP in CBD on Saturdays"; March 25) and Mr Pavithran Vidyadharan ("Benefits of scrapping ERP on Saturdays"; Forum Online, March 27) for their feedback.

The Land Transport Authority uses Electronic Road Pricing to manage traffic demand on roads during hours with congestion.

Currently, on Saturdays, ERP is in operation only between 12.30pm and 8pm for roads within the Orchard and Bugis-Marina Centre cordons, as they serve predominantly shopping destinations which experience higher traffic demand on Saturdays.

Since the implementation of ERP on Saturdays for the two cordons, we have been able to keep traffic speeds within an optimal range of between 20kmh and 30kmh.

This has helped to improve the overall experience of visitors to the area.

On the other hand, roads within the Shenton Way-Chinatown cordon experience lower traffic demand on Saturdays, as they serve mainly offices in the Shenton Way and Marina Bay Financial Centre areas.

Hence, motorists do not need to pay ERP to enter the Shenton Way-Chinatown cordon on Saturdays.
