We refer to Mr Kwok Ming Fai’s letter “No action taken on illegal parking” (Straits Times, 3 Jun 2014).
Since mid April this year, the Land Transport Authority had activated closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) at 10 locations, including Commonwealth Avenue West, to enforce against illegal parking. Our records show that enforcement action have been taken against illegally parked vehicles along Commonwealth Avenue West since the start of the scheme. Mr Kwok had reported to LTA on the case of an illegally parked private bus along Commonwealth Avenue West. Our records show that Notices of Traffic Offence were issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, which the driver may not be aware of.
Members of the public can use the MyTransport.sg website to check for any unpaid fines from any outstanding summons. However, the data is removed once the fine is paid, or when it is escalated to court action as it was left unpaid. There is also a time lag between the time of CCTV detection and when the information is uploaded onto the MyTransport.sg website. Hence, it may not be accurate to conclude that no action had been taken even though the records are not available on the MyTransport.sg website.
We thank Mr Kwok for the opportunity to clarify.
