We refer to Mr Gurmit Singh Kullar’s letter “Give better warnings about KPE closures” (TODAY Online, 6 June 2014).
As part of efforts to upkeep the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will need to close stretches of the tunnel at times to carry out maintenance works. While these works are necessary, they are usually conducted late at night to minimise the impact to motorists. Where possible, we will avoid such works on Friday and Saturday nights. Furthermore, the Land Transport Authority also periodically reviews the traffic conditions near the vicinity and within the tunnel, before scheduling any maintenance activities to ensure the impact to motorists are kept to the minimum.
To inform motorists in a timely manner ahead of such planned road tunnel closures, messages are displayed on available electronic signboards along the adjoining expressways and major connecting roads in advance of, and during the actual road closures. Motorists can also tune in to local radio stations to receive information on impending and existing road closures. Information on road closures can also be found on the One.Motoring website.
We thank Mr Singh for the opportunity to clarify.
