Train service on the North East Line (NEL) between Punggol and Buangkok was disrupted this morning due to a power fault. Preliminary investigations indicate that cantilever arms of the Overhead Catenary System[1] between Sengkang and Punggol stations have dislodged.
Full Train Service Expected to be Restored This Afternoon
2. Train service between Buangkok and Sengkang stations was restored at about 8.05am. Currently, normal train service is operating between Harbourfront and Sengkang stations.
3. To facilitate recovery works, there will be no train service between Sengkang and Punggol stations. During this period, northbound trains will turn around at Sengkang station. LTA engineers are on-site to help with service recovery. Operator SBS Transit (SBST) expects to restore full train service this afternoon.
4. Free bus boarding and bus bridging were activated between Buangkok and Punggol stations at around 6.20am. Announcements were also made at all NEL stations to inform commuters. Information was also disseminated via LTA Traffic News, LTA’s Facebook and Twitter accounts; and SBST’s channels.
5. LTA will carry out a full investigation into the cause and the operator’s management of this incident.
