Motorists should wait for MRT commuters at nearby carparks

Media Replies 22 Sep 2014

We refer to Mr Lee Kiat Seng’s letter "Nowhere to park and wait at MRT station’” (ST Online, 6 Sep).

Pick-up and drop-off points provided near public transport nodes are to enable immediate passenger pick up and drop off only.  Given the narrow corridor of Cluny Park Road, it is especially critical for passenger cars not to park at the pick-up/drop-off bay facing Serene Centre serving the current CCL Botanic Gardens station as this will cause unnecessary obstruction to other motorists picking up or alighting their passengers. With the construction of the DTL Botanic Gardens station, LTA is looking into improving pick-up and drop-off facilities at the station.

As we have received feedback from the public on illegal parking along Cluny Park Road, we have been conducting regular enforcement actions to ensure traffic is not obstructed. Motorists who need to park and wait can do so at nearby carparks in the area, such as in the Botanic Gardens, NUS campus and other commercial establishments.

We thank Mr Lee for the opportunity to clarify.
