Train services on the North East Line was disrupted this morning due to a power fault. Preliminary investigations indicate that a new train undergoing testing damaged the overhead catenary system (OCS) as it was withdrawing to the depot. The power failure affected the launching of trains for the morning service. The exact cause of the incident is under investigation.

Train operator SBST and LTA activated free bus boarding along all affected stations initially and was later extended island wide in light of today's O and A level examinations to help students get to school for their examinations. The Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board has been informed of this arrangement. Transcom officers were supported on-site by LTA Enforcement Officers and the Traffic Police to assist in crowd management.

Meanwhile, train services from Punggol to HarbourFront stations (southbound) resumed at 0654 operating at longer headway of 6 - 8 minutes.
