Train services on the North-South Line between Bishan and Yishun stations were disrupted this morning due to a traction power fault. Preliminary investigations indicate that a power breaker located at Ang Mo Kio MRT station was damaged. The exact cause of the incident is under investigation.
Train operator SMRT activated free bus boarding and free shuttle service between Yishun and Marina South Pier stations. To cater to the peak south-bound demand, SMRT operated an additional free shuttle bus service between Yishun and Bishan stations. Transcom officers were supported on-site by LTA Enforcement Officers and the Traffic Police to assist in crowd and traffic management. The Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) was also informed of these arrangements in view of GCE A-level exams this morning. SEAB has also given candidates the assurance that they will not be penalised for being late and they will be given the full duration for the examination.
Commuters were advised to check for updates before starting their trip. Information was available on LTA and PTO’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, LTA Traffic News and MyTransport.SG.
Full train service resumed in both directions at 8.10am. As at 9am, about 50 trains were running at frequency of 2 - 3 minutes.
