1. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded contracts for another five City Direct Services to two private bus operators (PBOs) under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) today. This is on top of 15 City Direct Services launched in the past three years[1], bringing the total number of City Direct Services to 20.
2. The five services will operate from Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Clementi/Dover, Punggol, and Yishun to the Central Business District (CBD) during the morning peak hours and return from the CBD during the evening peak hours. These services will be launched progressively from February 2016. With fewer stops and the use of expressways, journey time for City Direct Services will be comparable to that of taking a bus or LRT and transferring to the MRT into the city.
Services Awarded
3. The contracts for three services – Bedok, Clementi/Dover and Yishun West - have been awarded to Tong Tar Transport Service Pte Ltd for about $3.41 million in total. BT&TAN Transport Pte Ltd has been awarded the contracts for two services - Ang Mo Kio and Punggol - for about $2.46 million in total.
4. The two new City Direct Services serving Ang Mo Kio and Yishun West will operate three one-way trips on weekday mornings towards the CBD and two one-way trips from the city in the evenings. The other three new City Direct Services for Bedok, Clementi/Dover and Punggol will operate two one-way trips on weekday mornings towards the CBD and two one-way trips from the city in the evenings. More trips may be added if there is higher demand for these services. Similar to the 15 CDS introduced earlier, the services will operate on weekday morning and evening peak periods excluding public holidays.
