We refer to Ms Chua Kim Choo’s letter “Yishun Temporary Bus Interchange – Make Transition Easier” (TNP, 11 Mar 2015).
To facilitate the construction of the new Yishun Integrated Transport Hub (ITH), the existing Yishun Bus Interchange and bus operations will have to move to a temporary site. When completed by 2019, Yishun residents will have the convenience of transferring between bus and train and have access to retail and F&B facilities, all in air conditioned comfort.
The site of the Yishun Temporary Bus Interchange (TBI) was chosen due to its close proximity to the old bus interchange. It is also the only available site with the next shortest walking distance to the Yishun MRT station, about 5 to 6 minutes, slightly longer than the previous 3 to 4 minutes.
Like all construction projects, the construction of the new Yishun ITH will bring some temporary inconveniences to commuters.
We assure Ms Chua that efforts have been made to minimise any inconvenience. For example, new temporary bus stops have been constructed or modified along Yishun Central, Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Avenue 5 to allow commuters to alight before they reach the TBI and transfer to the MRT.
Commuters who are transferring between bus and train services can also make use to the newly constructed covered barrier-free linkway between the temporary interchange and North Point to shield them from the elements.
We thank Ms Chua for her feedback.
