More City Direct Services, More Connections to the City

News Releases 21 Jul 2015 city direct Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP)

1. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded contracts for five more City Direct Services to two private bus operators (PBOs) under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP). This is on top of the ten City Direct Services already launched in the last two years[1]. In addition, five more City Direct Services will be put up for tender from the fourth quarter of 2015, bringing the total number of City Direct Services to 20.

2. The five services will operate from Marsiling/Woodlands, Pasir Ris, Tampines East/Simei, Yew Tee, and Yishun to the Central Business District (CBD) during the morning peak hours and from the CBD during the evening peak hours. These services will be launched progressively from September 2015. With fewer stops and the use of expressways, journey times for City Direct Services will be comparable to that of taking a bus or LRT and transferring to the MRT into the city.

3. LTA will call another tender in July 2015 for five more City Direct Services, which will operate from Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Clementi/Dover, Punggol, and Yishun to the CBD. These services will be implemented progressively from the fourth quarter of 2015.

Services Awarded

4. The contracts for three services - Pasir Ris, Tampines East/Simei and Yew Tee - have been awarded to Aedge Holdings Pte Ltd (AHP) for about $5.41 million. Bus Hub Service Pte Ltd (BHS) has been awarded the contract for two services - Marsiling/Woodlands and Yishun - for about $3.14 million.

5. The two new City Direct Services serving Marsiling/Woodlands and Yishun will operate three one-way trips on weekday mornings towards the CBD and two return trips from the city in the evenings. The other three new City Direct Services will operate two one-way trips on weekday mornings towards the CBD and two return trips from the city in the evenings. More trips may be added if demand for these services increases. The services will operate on weekday morning and evening peak periods excluding public holidays.

Services to be tendered

6. In July 2015, five more City Direct Services will be put up for tender and progressively implemented from the fourth quarter of 2015. Residents in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Clementi/Dover, Punggol, and Yishun will then have more options for their daily commute to and from the CBD during morning and evening peak periods.

7. The three new City Direct Services serving Bedok, Clementi/Dover, and Punggol will operate two one-way trips per service on weekday mornings towards the CBD. The other two new services, operating from Ang Mo Kio and Yishun, will operate three one-way trips per service on weekday mornings towards the CBD. All five bus services will run two return trips per service from the CBD in the evenings. More trips may be added if demand for the services increases. The bus services will operate on weekday peak periods excluding public holidays. More details will be announced closer to the implementation dates.

8. Private bus operators will be invited to submit their cost proposals to operate the five new CDS. The tendering process will allow the most cost-efficient operator(s) to win the rights to operate the services. Successful operator(s) will have to apply for bus service licences from the Public Transport Council (PTC), which regulates bus services.
