The Land Transport Authority will refurbish the Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange and build an underpass linking the upgraded bus interchange with the North-South Line (NSL) Woodlands station and the future Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) Woodlands station. When the underpass is completed in 2019, commuters will be able to conveniently transfer between the rail and bus networks. The upgraded Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange will also be equipped with more commuter-centric and barrier-free facilities to serve residents, including enhanced amenities for bus captains.
Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange
2. To make way for the construction of the new underpass, the existing Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange will be temporarily relocated, from 12 March 2016, to an adjacent site along Woodlands Square (see the map at Annex). There will be no impact to commuters transferring to the NSL Woodlands station as sheltered linkways will connect the Temporary Bus Interchange with the MRT station and Causeway Point shopping centre.
3. Although the entry and exit routes of all 26 public bus services and two Peak Period Short Services (PPSS)1 serving the interchange will change, commuters will not be affected as there are no changes to any of the bus stops along these routes.
4. Meanwhile, at the Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange, commuters will enjoy dedicated priority queue zones, following successful implementation of similar queue zones at both the Yishun Temporary Bus Interchange and Joo Koon Integrated Transport Hub. These are demarcated zones next to the boarding berths where seniors, expectant mothers and people with disabilities are encouraged to wait, so that they can be accorded priority in boarding buses. These priority queue zones will also be fitted with seats for commuters to rest. In addition, a Tactile Guidance System will be implemented so that the visually impaired are able to locate the waiting areas.
