We refer to Mr Zhou Rong’s letter, ‘Improve road safety at Hillview’ (Lianhe Zaobao, 18 February 2016).

The roundabout serves as a traffic calming measure to slow down motorists travelling along Hillview Avenue. Based on our observations, the traffic along Hillview Avenue near the roundabout is moderate, and pedestrians are able to find gaps in the traffic stream to cross the road safely using the existing wide centre divider as refuge on Hillview Avenue. Recently, additional centre dividers at Hillview Rise and Hillview Avenue were also implemented so that pedestrians can cross at the roundabout more safely in two stages.

We will continue to monitor the traffic conditions and, in addition, look at how we can further enhance safety for pedestrians. As part of the enhancement plans, we will look into converting the roundabout into a signalised crossing to better serve our pedestrians as more new developments take shape.
