- The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the contract for two new City Direct Services (CDS) and the existing CDS 651 to Rui Feng Chartered Pte Ltd for about $2.87 million in total, as the current contract for CDS 651 will expire in August 2016. The two new CDS are on top of the 20[1] CDS launched in the past three years, bringing the total number of CDS to 22. With fewer stops and the use of expressways, journey time for City Direct Services will be comparable to that of taking a bus or LRT and transferring to the MRT into the city.
Services Awarded
- The two new services will operate from Buangkok/Sengkang and Hougang from the fourth quarter of 2016. Each service will run two one-way trips towards the Central Business District (CBD) during weekday morning peak hours and two one-way trips from the city during weekday evening peak hours. More trips may be added if there is higher demand for these services. More details will be announced closer to the implementation dates.
- CDS 651, which is re-tendered out, will continue to serve Jurong West. Its route and operational details will remain unchanged.
New Tender Called
- As the current contracts for existing CDS 652, 653, 654, 655, 656 and 657 will expire between January and February 2017, LTA has called a tender today to invite private bus operators to submit their cost proposals to operate these six CDS. The tendering process will allow the most cost-efficient operator(s) to win the rights to operate the services.
