1. Checks on the Circle Line (CCL) signalling system have continued overnight. As part of our investigations, we are testing all possible sources that might have contributed to the recent spate of interferences.
2. To eliminate telecommunication signals as a possible cause, we will be switching off mobile signals[1] at four CCL stations, ie. Kent Ridge, Haw Par Villa, Pasir Panjang and Labrador Park between 7pm to 9pm this evening. This temporary suspension of mobile communication services will affect commuters only while they are travelling in the underground tunnels along these four stations and on the stations’ underground platforms while waiting for train arrivals. They will not be able to make mobile phone calls, SMS or access the Internet during the suspension. Commuters who need to make urgent phone calls can approach SMRT staff at the Passenger Service Centre in each station for assistance.
3. The mobile signals need to be turned off during these two hours as we are checking for possible interference between the telecommunications network and train signalling system during peak hours when most of the incidents have occurred. We seek commuters' understanding as we work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
