We refer to Mr Tan Hsiao Wei’s letter “DTL3: Allow transfer between Rochor, Jalan Besar stations” (7 June 2017).
The Downtown Line (DTL) was built to connect commuters travelling from the residential heartlands in the north-west and east directly to the city, while also enhancing connectivity within the city itself. For these reasons, the DTL makes a loop through the city centre.
Unlike Newton station, which serves as an interchange station for commuters to transfer between the North-South Line and the DTL, Rochor and Jalan Besar stations are separate stations. Commuters who exit from either of these stations and re-enter at the other one will be regarded as having taken two separate journeys, consistent with the current treatment of all exits and re-entries involving separate stations in the rail network.
We thank Mr Tan for the opportunity to clarify.
