Factsheet: New 15km Cycling Path Network in Jurong Lake District

News Releases 01 Jul 2017 Factsheet cycling town cycling network Active Mobility Patrol (AMP) bicycle parking Jurong Lake District (JLD)

1.    Going car-lite in the Jurong Lake District (JLD), Singapore’s second Central Business District, is now easier with the completion of a 15km dedicated cycling path network. JLD is the 8th intra-town cycling path network in Singapore. This is part of the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) long term plan to progressively construct dedicated cycling path networks in all HDB towns to enhance first and last mile connections.

2.    The JLD cycling path network was officially launched by the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, and Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC at Jurong East this morning. He was accompanied by Grassroots Advisers for Jurong GRC, West Coast GRC, Yuhua SMC, and Bukit Batok SMC.

3.    With the new cycling path network, residents can cycle more safely and seamlessly from their homes to public transport nodes or their offices in the vicinity. The cycling path network will also enable families and groups of cyclists to explore the scenic Jurong Lake Gardens all the way to Taman Jurong via the existing park connector.

4.    By end 2020, the JLD cycling path network will also be integrated with the neighbouring Taman Jurong estate, which will have its own cycling path network. Please refer to the ANNEX for a map of the Jurong Lake District Cycling Town.

More Bicycle Parking

5.    To complement the cycling path network, LTA has been increasing bicycle parking facilities in JLD. The bicycle parking capacity at Chinese Garden and Lakeside MRT stations has been ramped up by close to 50 per cent since 2014, bringing the total capacity at both stations to more than 600 lots. LTA will continue to monitor the demand of bicycle parking in Jurong, and look at enhancing the provision of parking facilities at various locations such as the major transport nodes.

Promoting Safer Cycling Culture

6.    LTA has been working with the local community to introduce the Active Mobility Patrol Scheme. Close to 100 volunteers from various Grassroots Organisations from Jurong have come on board and formed teams to engage and educate their residents on safe riding habits. Through this initiative, LTA aims to facilitate greater community participation in fostering a harmonious sharing culture among the residents, thereby creating a safe commuting environment for all users.
