Factsheet: Partnering the Community for Safer Sharing of Public Paths

News Releases 29 Jul 2017 Active Mobility Enforcement Officers (AMEOs) Factsheet Active Mobility Patrol (AMP)

More than 200 Active Mobility Patrol (AMP) volunteers were honoured at the inaugural AMP appreciation event held today where Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan presented appreciation plaques to the AMP teams to thank them for their valuable contributions over the past year.

2    Since April 2016, The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has partnered the community to promote safe and harmonious sharing of paths through the AMP scheme. To date, a total of 47 AMP teams with more than 800 volunteers have been formed. They complement the LTA’s Active Mobility Enforcement Officers (AMEOs) by conducting patrols within their constituencies to share safe riding tips with fellow residents.

Volunteers with Selected Additional Enforcement Powers

3    To build up a core group of volunteers with enforcement powers, LTA has also trained its first batch of 25 Volunteer Public Path Wardens (VPPWs). These VPPWs are vested with selected enforcement powers which include taking down the particulars of those who violate active mobility rules, and documenting photos and videos of the incident scene, which are then referred to LTA for further enforcement action. The additional training that VPPWs undergo include training on the rules and code of conduct under the Active Mobility Act, and the scope of VPPWs’ enforcement powers. This is followed by on-the-job training with LTA’s AMEOs to refine their public engagement skills.

4    LTA will be training more VPPWs to support our education and enforcement efforts.  We hope that the community will continue to support us in our initiative to shape a culture of safe and considerate path-sharing.
