The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has completed a half-day stocktake of safety practices, and resumed works at all other LTA worksites as at 1pm today.
This safety stocktake was effected by LTA in view of an accident at 3.30am today at the worksite where the new road viaduct from TPE (Changi) to PIE (Westbound) is being constructed.
This morning, the contractor, Or Kim Peow Contractors Pte Ltd, was carrying out planned works to cast the decking for the new viaduct adjacent to the slip-road from Upper Changi Road East to PIE (Changi).
During the accident, the collapsed structure had spilled onto the slip road, making it impassable to traffic. Recovery works are still in progress.
LTA’s safety investigations into the cause of the work-site accident are currently still ongoing. We are also working with the Ministry of Manpower on their investigation.
As of 7pm, seven of the 10 injured workers remain warded. Senior Minister of State Mr Lam Pin Min had also visited the injured workers at Changi General Hospital earlier this afternoon. LTA’s officers will continue to render all necessary assistance to the workers affected in the accident.
To minimise inconvenience to motorists and commuters affected by the slip road closure, works are ongoing to construct a temporary at-grade bypass road next to the closed slip road. See location map attached. This at-grade bypass road will facilitate access from the east along Upper Changi Road East to get onto PIE (Changi). LTA will carry out a thorough safety and design review of the temporary road before opening it for public use by noon tomorrow. Motorists are advised to drive carefully and follow the temporary signs placed on-site to reach their destinations.
