'Taxi stands for taxis only' rule will be reviewed regularly

Media Replies 14 Sep 2017

We refer to the letter from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association on opening up taxi stands to private hire cars (The Straits Times, 7 September 2017).

Public taxi facilities, which include taxi stands, are provided primarily for passengers to street-hail in a safe and orderly manner. The usage of these facilities are currently restricted to taxis as only taxis can provide street-hailed services.

Private hire cars, like private cars, can board and alight passengers at private driveways of commercial buildings, public pick-up/drop-off facilities, or along roads where stopping is allowed.

We will review this restriction regularly, taking into account changing commuter preferences and safety.
